Concrete, paver and stone walkways we build
Poured or stamped concrete
A broom-finished slab for a plain, sturdy path, or stamped with a pattern and color while it's wet when you want more texture.
Concrete pavers
Individual pavers set on a packed base in a pattern you pick. They suit a walk that should match a paver drive or patio.
Natural stone
Flagstone, slate, granite or travertine laid as a path that fits older brick homes and garden beds, with each piece set by hand.
What goes into building a new walkway in Hoover?
Walkway construction in Hoover, AL means building a path to your door or through your yard from poured concrete, stamped concrete, pavers or natural stone, and the material you pick decides how it looks, how fast it goes in and how well it stands up to weather.
Most people call us because the old walk has cracked or heaved, the stepping stones have sunk into the lawn, or they're tired of a muddy track to the front door. What you pay turns mostly on the material, how long and wide the walk runs, how much digging and grading the route needs and whether it adds steps or meets the sidewalk. The schedule turns on the material too, and on what the city needs before we start. I'll give you your own number at the estimate, after I've walked the route with you.
Walks, steps and borders from the ground up
Every walk starts with where you actually walk, what your house is built of and what you want to spend, so I look at all three before we talk material.
Picking the material
We weigh poured concrete, pavers and natural stone against your budget and the look of your house before anything gets ordered.
Laying out and digging
We stake the route, dig out the old path or sod and set the slope so water sheds away from your house.
Packing the base
We pack the base in layers and set a solid edge along paver walks, because what's underneath and alongside keeps the surface flat.
Pouring or laying
We pour and finish the concrete, or lay and joint each paver or stone, keeping the slope true from one end to the other.
Steps, borders and tie-ins
Where the yard calls for it, we add steps, stone masonry borders or a low wall through our brick wall installation work.
Walks, steps and walls built by the book
We build your walk without hurrying the base nobody sees, and you'll know what you're paying for and why before we start. I'll also tell you straight if yours can wait. Call (205) 236-6688 to set up a visit.
The owner at your estimate and on site
I come out myself to look at the walk and give the estimate, then I'm there running the work alongside our crew, so the person you talked to is the one building it.
Trained on a city crew, working since 2021
I learned on a city crew laying block, setting curb and patching old brick that had to pass inspection, and we've built for homeowners the same way since 2021.
Licensed and insured on your job
We're licensed and insured, and that goes with our crew onto your property from the first stake in the yard to the last of the cleanup.

Walkway questions we hear in Hoover
Which walkway material costs the least to build in Hoover?
Poured concrete is generally the most cost-effective way to build a walkway, and real stone pavers cost much more. If you want a stone look on a modest budget, stamped concrete or concrete pavers can pass for stone, so it's worth pricing those first. At the estimate I'll show you how each choice changes your number.
Is a natural stone walkway worth the extra cost?
It can be, because flagstone, granite, slate and travertine are highly durable and less likely to crack from weather. You pay more at the start for a path that holds up to the weather, so it makes sense when the look matters to you and the budget allows it. If it doesn't, a concrete walk built right is nothing to apologize for.
How long does it take to build a concrete walkway compared with pavers?
A poured concrete walk usually goes in faster than pavers, because nobody has to lay and set each piece by hand. If you're working to a short timeline, that's a good reason to lean toward concrete. The permit check before we start can also shape the schedule, and I'll tell you where that stands at the estimate.
What causes a paver walkway to sink or spread?
Usually it's a base too thin for the ground under it or an edge that can't hold the pavers in. How thick the packed base needs to be depends on foot traffic, the soil, how well it drains, how wet it stays and the climate. The flat metal or plastic edging sold for flower beds gives too little side support, and timber warps and eventually rots, so ask any contractor what will hold your walk in place.
Who is allowed to build a walkway in Hoover?
Hoover requires every general contractor and subcontractor to hold a City of Hoover license plus any state license the work calls for. Before you sign with anyone, it's fair to ask to see theirs.
How do I take care of a paver walkway?
Sweep and clean it regularly, especially in shady or damp spots where moss and chalky white salt deposits tend to show up. Power washing generally isn't recommended, because it blows out the sand in the joints that keeps the pavers tight.

Brick wall installation
A low brick wall or seat wall along the walk can hold back a bed, frame the entry and tie the path into the brick on your house.

Building a walkway in Hoover
The city requires a building permit before any construction work starts, whether a homeowner or a contractor is doing it, and its Inspection Services Department handles residential work. Before we dig, we check with them about what your walk needs and handle the permit with them when one is required. If your walk will tie into the city sidewalk or curb, cutting into or replacing that concrete takes a street-cut permit from the city, so we plan for that from the start. You can also ask the department yourself at 205-444-7522.
We're based in Hoover and work across the Birmingham area. A lot of the walks we're asked about here run from the driveway up a grade to the front door beside brick that's been there for decades, so we choose a material and pattern that sit right next to the house, the same as on jobs in Vestavia Hills and Homewood.
